Indianapolis 500
In 1961, Cooper Cars and World Champion Jack Brabham competed in the Indianapolis 500.
The entry created quite a stir: their funny, rear-engined, underpowered car qualified 13th. and finished 9th. Serious frowns broke out across many foreheads in Gasoline Alley when that happened! The future of the traditional front-engined "Indy Roadsters" became dramatically shortened on that day and within 4 years the genre virtually ceased to exist as a racing type.
